1st day at work - dinner at the Hilton

Well - I had to get to work today, kindof. My intended Cerner guide, Satriya(Cerner Country Manager for Malaysia), was ill, so Halim (Cerner Engagement Leader) picked me up, took me to the office, got me my temp ID and key, all that. We went shopping at lunch, for toner for the office printer, an electrical adapter for me, mouse pad (my hotel disk is a glass top, that drives the optical mouse crazy).
I shopped phones, a little bit, as I need to buy one for here (from Cerner). It was so packed at the electronics mall. Yeah - that's right. 6 levels of movile phone and camera and computer stores. Some nice storefronts, some more warehouse (stacks and stacks of stuff), all very crowded with folks.
I had a meeting or 2 on my main project an listened in on a couple of others that I 'might' get to help with while I'm here.
I found out I can buy a pre-loaded train card, and stop buying separate tickets. Very cool.
Dinner tonight was really different and good. A 'continental' restaurant at the Hilton next door, that had you order your entree (Ribeye steak, medum rare, for me), and then all of the appetizers, salads and deserts were buffet-style, kindof. A kitchen full of chef looking guys prepared oodles of little tiny dishes of each salad/appetizer/desert and then layed a who platter of the small dishes out. For example there were samples of various Malaysia salads, just a bite or 2 of each, in a little dish. Side-dishes were very small portions of veggies, and meat bites (Scallop, fish, Salmon, beef, chicken), potato, funny sauces, etc. Desert was the same, which is neat. Try a bite of Creme Brulee (sp), or Carrot Cake, or Cheese Cake, or a cinnamon/orange cake, or mango pudding. All very small. Good dinner, for about $30,
After dinner I found a nice place by the pool, with a band playing old American dance music (light stuff from the 70's and 80's, I'd guess). It was low 80's and a light breeze. Very relaxing.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) is a slow day here. It is Mohammed's 1400th birthday, or close to that. Malaysia respects holidays from all their various cultures, so they have national holidays for Islam, Hindu, Malay, maybe Buddhist. I think they have 3 holidays while I am here. So another Cerner guys and I are working from the hotel tomorrow.
That's about all. Good night.
